Manning/Dunn Hyde County NC Genealogy

East Carolina Genealogy and more!

A few Deal family members showed up in the annals of history. The came from London England to Virginia, then down to Edgecombe County and migrated to Beaufort and Hyde.

Interestingly enough there is another Deal Family in Central NC (Catawba) that came from Germany through Philadelphia and down to NC. One of that line also married a woman named Mary Stallings (born around 1860).

Anyone fond of the name Durwood? Seems that the Deal family is (HA)! There are two Durwood Deals, one Durwood Alston Deal from Beaufort County, and also Durwood Allen Deal from Hyde County. They are 3rd cousins once removed...CRAZY! There is also an Ernest Durwood "Clay" Deal. He and his family lived next to our farm in Ponzer.

Durwood Allen Deal is my 2nd cousin once removed.

Ruby Glen Gibbs Deal will turn 100 this year! She and her daughter Edna live together in Ponzer - Steve

Here's a note from my dad to me about the Deal family.

Steve,
Right off the top of my head I can't remember much about the Deals. They lived just NW of us. They were two brothers - Clay Deal lived right next to our farm, then Earl Deal. Earl married Ruby Gibbs, daughter of Aunt Nan (Morris) Gibbs. They lived there until they died.

Clay moved to Norfolk early in WW2 and never came back. I think they may have moved down the county after the war. Perhaps that was their home territory before moving to Ponzer.

Clay had a son my age who was a nice kid, but I never saw him again after the war. He was called J.C.

When Floyd preached at Scranton, Earl and Ruby's daughter a was member of the church - I think her name was Edna Earl. He might know more than I. She was my age, and had several siblings whose names I don't remember. I don't know if any of their offspring live in Ponzer or not. they lived basically across the road from Uncle Audie's house.

The last I knew, some of them still owned the land. I remember talking to Dad about buying it and he said that he had tried, but was unsuccesful.

They were nice decent folks.

Come to think of it,  Mom and Dad were married sitting in a buggy in the road in front of their father's house, so that means that their Ponzer roots went back at least one more generation.
